Heartlland Conference
Five girls made all conference and all five boys made all conference. All conference was given to top 9 scores. Hannah Sullivan missed it by only one spot.

Girls break a school record with a score of 317. Their previous record of 320 was in the championship year of 2013 at Cherokee trails golf course. Heidi Stafford and Melissa Eldridge finished the day tied for first at 76. Melissa won the second hole of sudden death playoff on hole 9 with an eagle. Rachel Donaldson finished 3rd with her season low of 79. Hope Lasiter finished 5th with 86. Hannah Sullivan finished 10th with 125. Second place team was Morris with 511. That's a 194 stroke win!!

Boys shoot there season team low of 329. That may be a record for them I will get with coach on that. Luke wins tournament with an even par 72. Clay ridge was 2nd with 76. fin Bradley 4th with 88. Ethan white 5th with 93. Josh Hunn finished 7th with 102.

 

Eufaula wins third tournament of the season at Hilldale on a warm and windy day. Eldredge edged out Stafford with a birdie on the eighteenth hole for her second individual win of the season (74). Stafford fell one stroke short by making bogie on the eighteenth hole for a 2nd place finish (75). Senior Rachel Donaldson got her third top ten of the season placing 7th with an 89. Hope Lasiter finished the day in a four way tie for 14th shooting 96. Freshman Hannah Sullivan shot a 126 to finish in 58th place on the day.

SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING
Dobbs Advances to State in Scholastic Shooting

On March 10, the Eufaula FFA Trap shooting team traveled to Coweta Oklahoma to compete in the 3rd annual Oklahoma Scholastics Shooting Sports Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife and the Midway Foundation. This contest was the Northeast Regional shoot.

The contest consisted of teams of 10 to 15 members with 28 teams competing for approximately 280 students competing. Eufaula senior Mason Dobbs won high male shooter and top overall individual shooting a near perfect score by only missing one target. Dobbs will now advance to the state shoot in May.

The FFA team placed 8th in the region with team members consisting of Mason Dobbs, Ethan White, Mason Gawf, Hunter Gott, Ridge Dotson, Jesten Sturges, Kenedee Rittenhouse, Aislyn Lancaster, Amber Markus, and Ahsley Laughlin.

Eufaula FFA Chapter Update
February, 2015

The Eufaula FFA is entering its' busiest time of the year!  We are preparing for what we call our CDE's (AKA Career Development Events) such as Livestock Shows, Judging Contests, Speech Contests, and our end of the year activities such as State FFA Convention and our Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony.  But along the way we have achieved several awards/recognition that I would like to share with you.

We have already been showing at Jackpot Livestock Shows, and seeing a lot of success. Our Livestock Showers are really starting to be a force on the show circuit. But what I am most proud of is the compliment given to me by an Ag Teacher from a neighboring community.... He said he was so impressed to see how our kids worked together, and how the older kids were taking care of the younger kids.  He said that isn't the way it is everywhere else.  I was extremely proud!

Hannah Tankersley is officially a State Officer Candidate for the Oklahoma FFA Association!  She will go through the first round of interviews on Saturday, February 14th at Oklahoma City! The Eufaula FFA Chapter has only had 2 State Officers elected since its' beginning in 1928... Stephanie Kay Turner and David Houston Turner.  I'm not bragging, but you can guess how excited I am to have the next generation of Eufaula FFA Members follow in our footsteps!

Alex Anderson is spending this week at the State Capitol as a page.  Many of you knew that, but yesterday she was elected as Governor of 'Pageville'.. as voted on by her fellow pages!  She delivered a speech last night on the House Floor and even  vetoed a (mock) bill that she didn't support!  I thought that was pretty cool!  I received several text from current Representatives and Senators about her professionalism, charisma, and poise! And, just as I was typing this email, a Representative text me and told me that Alex was selected as 'Page of the Week'!  Only 2 are selected.

And LAST NIGHT, we had 6 State Degree Candidates approved to receive their State FFA Degree!  To put that in perspective, most chapters will have 0, 1, or 2 per year... we had 6!  And I haven't researched this statistic, but I'm quite certain that 6 is the most Eufaula FFA has ever had in one year!  These 6 State Degree Candidates, Alex Anderson, Kori Burge, Rylee Flusche,  Mason Gawf, Amber Markus, and Hannah Tankersley have worked for years to earn this recognition, but they have worked especially hard for the last two months to put it all together!

We appreciate all the help we receive from the Faculty of this School... Teachers, Administrators, and Support Staff as well, that aide us is helping these kids be successful!  The students we teach truly are the leaders of tomorrow, and our Future!  They will hopefully lead the Agricultural Industry into the next decade. And how important is the Agricultural Industry???  Well... If you Eat.... You are involved in Agriculture!

If you have an opportunity to help these kids please do not hesitate, I believe they are worth it!

Eufaula BPA Visits Eufaula Manor

Members of the  Eufaula High School Business Professionals of America visited residents at Eufaula Manor Wednesday evening.   Members are students of Mrs. Aday and Mrs. Akers’ classes at the high school.  They wished each resident a Merry Christmas and presented them with a gift.  Not sure who had more fun, the students or the residents!!

 

Technology and the Future Classroom
Students of Eufaula High School worked on a team project with 3rd grade students from Mrs. Tamez and Mrs. White's classes. Students from Mrs. Akers' and Mrs Aday's 3rd hour computer classes introduced the elementary students to the Ipad app, Color Mix. The goal of the project was for the high school students to mentor the elementary students and to spark interest for careers in computers.

Yearbook
The Eufaula High School yearbook staff has been working hard on this year's yearbook. The staff attended a workshop hosted by Jostens Publishing at McAlester earlier this year. The workshop covered the latest trends in desktop publishing. Yearbooks are on sale for $45.00.

High School Band
The Pride of Eufaula Marching Band had an especially good season this year. The Pride finished the marching season having attained straight superior ratings at OSSAA Regional Marching Band Competition. This is the first step in achieving a state title. The Pride has been awarded ten trophies and plaques thus far, as well as finishing fourth at the marching band contest in Ada where The Pride beat
4-6A, 7-5A, and all of the 4A and 3A bands.

Football
The Eufaula Ironhead Football Team had a Great Season with 9 Wins and 3 Losses. The Ironheads finished the season 2nd in 3A District 8. The team made it to the second round of playoffs and finished the season ranked 12th in class 3A

Academic Team
The Academic Team Varsity and Junior Varsity traveled to the Blue Mountain State Academic Conference where both teams placed 3rd in the conference. The Academic Team-Varsity placed 1st in districts. Varsity team member Christopher Olds made Varsity All Conference Team for the Blue Mountain Academic Conference. Cleo Giraldo was the overall top scoring Junior varsity player from all teams in the JV Blue Mountain Academic Conference.

AFR District Speech Contest

Voice of Democracy
Three EHS students won recognition for their speech writing and speaking abilities in the local level of the national Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary. First place winner was awarded to Cleo Giraldo, second place winner was awarded to Christopher Oulds, and third place winner wawarded to Mackinzie Dalton for writing and recording a 3-5 minute speech over this year's theme, "Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation's Past and Future.

Middle School Students

In celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Eufaula Lake Dam, the Middle School Student Council joined Team Up to Clean Up Members to beautify an area at Dam Site South. Watch their video and click their facebook page at ems.eufaula.k12.ok.us to view this year long project.

First Semester at Eufaula Elementary

What a great start we have had to the 2014-2015 school year at Eufaula Elementary. We have implemented new academic programs, participated in multiple community outreach events, and have had many highlights this semester.Our elementary teachers have focused on improving students' reading skills. We have implemented a Literacy Lab that allows kindergarten and first grade students to learn to read utilizing hands on technology, visual, and auditory centers daily.

The first through fifth grade students have Accelerated Reading goals incorporated into their reading grades. Students who achieve 100 Accelerated Reading points will attend an additional field trip at the end of the year.

Mrs. Bohannon's fifth grade language arts students have written and published Thanksgiving Books.

Eufaula Elementary students have been involved with multiple community outreach events this school year. We started the year with our first Heads Back to School Bash that provided over 250 backpacks of school supplies for students in Pre-K through the 8th grades. This project was in collaboration with the McIntosh Coalition, McIntosh Health Department, and multiple community organizations. Many of the fifth grade students participated in the preparation of community food baskets for the holiday season.

With the help of the elementary staff, the Eufaula PTA provided eighty backpacks of food for students, prepared over 40 Thanksgiving Boxes for families, and organized the Angel Tree presents for over 60 students. We are fortunate and grateful to have such an active and giving PTA at Eufaula Elementary.

The Little Ironheads have enjoyed several highlights and accomplishments this first semester.Our Veteran's Day Writing Awards winners:
Cadence Smith, Matt Clover, Allison Turner, Chase Delaney, and McKenzie McIntosh. Chase Delaney was also the Drug Free Essay Award winner.Sarah Kingfisher had her artwork displayed at a state conference this fall. Our fifth grade little league team won the Super Bowl Champs.

Our third grade little league football team was Runner-Up in their division. The 4th and 5th grade basketball teams were successful.

Mrs.Newton presented numerous outstanding musical programs. The third grade students presented Character Matters in October, and the 5th grade students presented a wonderful Veteran's Day Program in November.

Mrs. Newton also directed two Christmas programs this semester. The first grade performed The Bugz Christmas and the 4th grade students performedJingle Bell Christmas. The students were a joy to watch.

Another highlight at the elementary this year was the Grandparents' Tea with our first grade students. This is the third year for this event and it was a huge success.

Our little Ironheads have already been on several field trips this school year. The Pre-K, Kindergarten students and Mr. McDonald's students visited pumpkin patches. The Pre-K students toured Blue Bell Ice Cream in Coweta, the first grade attended the Jasmine Moran Museum in Seminole and the Gifted and Talented students toured the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

As you can see, we are off to a great start at Eufaula Elementary and we are looking forward to an exciting second
semester.

8th Grade Undefeated Football Season 

The 8th Grade Football team completed a perfect 7-0 season.  One of the biggest wins of the year was a 30 - 6 victory over 5A powerhouse McAlester.  The Copperheads scored an amazing 217 points and only allowed 56 on the year.  According to Coach Ryan Green a majority of these boys were at summer pride this summer and it really paid off.  They put in the time to try and become bigger, faster and stronger.  They played a very unselfish style of football and put the team concept before anything else.  Ironhead football is about being physical and playing as a team and these boys did that this year.

FFA STATE SPORTING CLAYS CONTEST

On Wednesday November 12, 2014, the Eufaula FFA Sporting Clays Team traveled to Arcadia Oklahoma to compete with the best of the best in the State of Oklahoma in sporting clays shooting. The Eufaula FFA Sporting Clays team was the Northeast District runner up team. This was the second year in a row Eufaula FFA has qualified a team for the state contest in this event. The team members Mason Gawf, Ethan White, Mason Dobbs, and Hunter Gott competed in senior division of the state contest placing 5th overall in the contest. That means they are the number 5 team in the entire state! There are approximately 200 FFA Sporting clays teams in the state!

 

 

 

On October 7, Eufaula FFA members competed in the Northeast District Sporting Clays contest in Kellyville Ok. There were 55 teams in each division in attendance with 220 students per division for a total of 440 students in attendance for the entire contest. Eufaula FFA's senior division team placed second in the contest overall and qualified to move onto the state FFA Sporting Clays Contest in November. Team members on the senior team were Mason Gawf, Mason Dobbs, Ethan White, and Hunter Gott. This is the second year in a row Eufaula FFA has qualified to go to state in this event.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The defending 3A State Champion Lady Ironheads shot their best two rounds of  golf for the 2014 season only to fall short to the Purcell Dragons by 10 strokes. Eufaula found themselves in a three team race for the Championship after day one. Eufaula shot their season low of 326 on day one falling behind Purcell by three strokes and ahead of Idabel by one stroke. Eufaula’s Melissa Eldredge was tied for the lead with Idabel’s Ali White at 73. Heidi Stafford shot her season low of 81,placing her in 7th place, followed by Rachel Donaldson with a 84 putting her just outside the top 10 at 11th place. Hope Lasiter shot a solid 88 good enough for 17th place.

Day Two was started an hour early due to high chances of thunderstorms. Idabel’s Ali White started the day off right with a hole in one on hole number three. The hole in one was the difference in the individual race as she edged out Eufaula’s Melissa Eldredge by two strokes at the end of the day. After nine holes played Eufaula had fallen behind Purcell by 7 strokes and had increased their lead over Idabel by 6 strokes. After a two hour rain delay the teams went out to finish the second nine holes. The Lady Ironheads and Purcell Dragons battled stroke for stroke on the back nine as Idabel fell back. The Lady Ironheads fought tough but couldn’t close the gap on Purcell for the back to back Championship.  Melissa Eldredge ended day two with a 76 giving her a two day total of 149. Heidi Stafford shot a 82 and a two day total of 163 placing her in 5th place overall. Rachel Donaldson shot a 83 and a two day total of 167 placing her in a 4 way tie for 8th place. Donaldson won a one hole playoff to secure her top 10 finish. Hope Lasiter ended the day with a 90 for a two day total of 180 placing her at 20th place overall.

2014 3A REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
For the second straight year the Lady Ironheads claim the East Regional Title at Scissortail Golf Course in Verdigris. Eufaula will enter the State Tournament as the number one seed out of the east regional at Fountainhead Creek Golf Course. The Lady Ironheads posted a score of 353 to out pace the Marlow Outlaws and Henryetta Knights who both shot 379 to advance to the state tournament. Sophomores Melissa Eldredge and Heidi Stafford finished one and two in the individual race with 84 and 85. Freshman Hope Lasiter shot a 91 and Junior Rachel Donaldson shot a 93 on the day. Lasiter and Donaldson finished 6th and 7th in the medal race. This was the 6th time out of 8  tournaments all four Lady Ironheads placed in the top 10 of the individual medal race.

Six First Place Wins in a Row for the Lady Ironheads

Lady Ironheads Blow Out Canadian Tournament
On a windy, sunny day, Eufaula shoots their season low score of 340 to blow past second place Keys by 83 strokes. All four bags were in the eighties for the first time all season, just in time for post season play. Eufaula was led by Junior, Rachel Donaldson who led all scores and her first tournament win with an 82. Heidi Stafford shot the second best score of the day and her back to back second place finish with an 84. Melissa Eldredge rounded out the top three for the Lady Heads with and 86. Freshman Hope Lasiter continues to be very solid at the four bag with her third straight top five finish.  Freshman Brooke Deeb played the day as an individual shooting a 97 good enough for 8th place on the day.

Eufaula High School Business Professionals of America attended their Spring Leadership Conference on March 13 & 14, 2014.  BPA is a career and technical student organization that is headquartered in Columbus, OH.  BPA aims to develop leadership, academic, and technological skills in the workplace among students and leaders within the community.  The BPA motto is “Today’s students. Tomorrow’s business professionals.”  There are 51,000 student members in 23 states and 2,300 chapters.  BPA awards students through competitive events, BPA care awards and torch awards.  There are 3 leadership conferences held; Fall, Spring and National. 

Eufaula High School had 3 students place at the Spring Leadership Conference, held at the ORU Maybe Center in Tulsa, OK.  Rachel Marlar, placed 2nd in Advanced Word Processing and will go on to the National Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, IN.  Olivia Smith placed in the top 10, in prepared speech, Amy Armendariz placed in the top 10 in extemporaneous speech, Colton Seaney and Brooke Williams both tried out for announcer and were chosen.  Colton announced the Post-Secondary awards session and Brooke Williams announced the Secondary awards session. 

Mrs. Theresa Akers and Mrs. Allison Aday sponsor Eufaula High School’s BPA organization.  We are very proud of our students.  They competed with all BPA members throughout the state of Oklahoma, not just 3A schools.  These students represented Eufaula High School in a very professional manner and showed great leadership skills.

MUSCOGEE CREEK NATION CHALLENGE BOWL

Eufaula High School  Native American Students Take 3rd at the Annual Muscogee Creek Nation Challenge Bowl. 

A huge congratulations goes to “Team Eufaula Ironheads”, who placed 3rd overall after 12 rounds of competition against  schools across the state of Oklahoma, Thursday February 11th, at the Muscogee Creek Nation Challenge Bowl.   

An array of dignitaries where in attendance, including Principal Chief George Tiger, who opened the day’s competition with words of  encouragement to all students who were participating.   

The students who made up “Team Eufaula Ironheads” were Dallian Thunderbull, Tyresse Collins,  CW Burns,  Abraham Williams,Shelby Bevenue and Ronnie Hallum.   The team received a plaque of achievement, along with bronze medallions  for each winner.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM MAKE IT TO STATE COMPETITION

Eufaula Cross Country is headed to STATE.  This past Saturday Eufaula runners competed in the Henryetta Regional Meet.  Only the top 5 individuals and the top 5 teams qualified for state.  Senior Madison Newton placed 5th with a 2 mile time of 12:50 qualifying for state in the 2nd overall individual spot out of 89 runners.  Junior Cole Montgomery placed 2nd with a 5K time of 16:40  out of 72 runners helping his whole team qualify for state.  Yes that is right…….for the first time is Eufaula School history a cross country TEAM is going to STATE. Only the top 5 boys teams in our regional qualified for state while our boys finished 4th.  1) Kansas  2)Sequoyah-Tahlequah 3)Henryetta  4)Eufaula  5)Holdenville  6)Kellyville  7) Oktaha  8) Heavener. The kids ran hard and represented Eufaula Schools with pride and determination.  I am very proud to be there coach.  If you see any of these runners please tell them congrats.  State meet will be this Saturday Oct 26 at the Gordan Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee at 12:00.  Madison and Cole both have a very good chance to finish in the top 10 in the state and receive the honor off All State.  Both have already been asked to attend Nationals in November.

STATE COMPETITION RESULTS: Cole Montgomery All-Star placed 5th in the state.  Madison Newton All-Star placed 11th in the state.  Eufaula Cross Country Boys Team Placed 3th Overall in the State. Both Cole and Madison may be invited to compete in the Meet of Champions in OKC on Nov 9.  This meet consists of the top runners of each class 2A-6A.

The PRIDE of EUFAULA
is doing great this first first semester receiving high scores in competition. The Pride has continued its tradition of excellence by winning numerous awards and placing several students in select honor bands this year.

Currently, The Pride is in preparation for state contest at ECU on April 21-22. The Pride is going for an unprecedented string of Eight Straight Years of Sweepstakes awards.

The Pride won the 3A division, the high music score award, and was awarded the Outstanding 3A Band. At OBA, The Pride finished in 11th place. The Pride has three students selected to the EDBDA All District Honor Band and fifteen students have been selected to the EOBDA All District Honor Band.

The Eufaula Lady Ironhead golf team traveled to Verdigris, Ok on Monday the 25th to participate in the Verdigris Golf Invitational, held at Scissortail Golf Course, host of the 2013 Class 3A Regional Golf Tournament. The tournament field contained 8 teams and 46 total golfers, 5 Teams were 2012 State tournament teams in 3A and 4A. The Lady Ironheads finished second overall with a team score of 368, only 9 strokes behind the 2012 class 3A Runner Up, Idabel Lady Warriors who finished the day with a team score of 359. The Lady Heads were led by Freshman, Melissa Eldredge 89 (6th ), Senior, Faith Lasiter with a 90 (7rd ), Senior, Hannah Rippy 93 (9th), Freshman, Heidi Stafford 96 (10th ), Sophomore, Rachael Marler 106 (tied 17th), and Sophomore Taylor O’Brien 104(16th) who participated as an individual. The Lady Heads participated in the Oktaha Tournament at Fountainhead Creek Golf Course on Wednesday March 27 (story next week). HIGH SCHOOL NEWS ARTICLE
1st Semester

In August, six FCCLA officers were elected. They are Tyler Warrior-Pres., Jasmyne Hutton-Vice Pres., Skye Knott –Secretary Tres., Ninth grade Reps. Destiny Deere, Amanda McNatt and Corrie Medlock. FCCLA attended the NE II Leadership Fall Rally in September. In October, they raised $500 for the Stephenson Cancer Research Center for Breast Cancer Research through pink t-shirt sales, bracelet and cookie sales. They also distributed "red ribbons" to all students and attended the Guts Church Nightmare. In November, they raised money for "Toys for Tots" and are preparing for District contests in December. The FCCLA sponsor is Lesa King.

The Eufaula High School Academic Team participates in the BMAC (Blue Mountain Academic Conference) with six other teams. The conference is a very tough conference with many teams making it to the Area and State Competitions every year. This year the varsity team placed 3rd in the conference. Members of the team included Kurstyn Abreo, Tim Winner, Ashton Mayle, Merrick McMorris, Rachael Marlar, and Reed Clark. Tim Winner was one of the top 8 scorers in the conference this year. The members of the JV team included Shelby Bevenue, Chris Oulds, Lloyd Oulds, and Riley Marlar. They had a great season and will be great assets to the varsity team next year. The academic sponsors are Michelle Cole and Jeanie Marlar.

Mr. Roger Thompson, our history teacher at EHS, will be taking another trip this May. This trip will be his annual trip overseas. Every summer Mr. Thompson leads a group of students and chaperons on a history based vacation. These trips have had great reviews and participation over the years. This year Mr. Thompson's group will be traveling to and touring London, Oxford University, Chartwell and the D-Day Beaches. At this time 22 people have signed up for this trip of a lifetime. If you are interested in attending please contact Mr. Thompson at EHS 689-2556.

The high school had four students selected for all-state choir. Those students are Mackenzie Dalton, Lloyd Oulds, Fayth Heflin and Teresa Dominic. This is Fayth Heflin's second consecutive year to make an all-state chorus. Teresa Dominic will receive the highest accolade and will be awarded with the 3-time OMEA High School All-State Chorus member. High school choir directors are Glenn Sizemore and Cryse Burns.

The high school is looking forward to great second semester in all of our academics and activities.

FFA NEWS

The Eufaula FFA Chapter is still experiencing great growth, more member participation, and plenty of success. Much of that success is due to adding a second Ag Teacher to the Ag Program. Our new Ag Teacher, Kory Ridley, comes to us from the Wellston FFA Chapter, but Ridley is originally from Haskell, Oklahoma. Mr. Ridley was a member of the Haskell FFA Chapter, attended Connors State College, and eventually graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2010.

Ridley joins David Turner who has taught Ag in Eufaula for five years. Turner is a product of the Eufaula FFA Chapter and Eufaula High School. After graduating from Eufaula High School in 1999, Turner served as a State FFA Officer while attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Turner graduated from OSU in 2004, and began his teaching career with the Owasso FFA Chapter. He taught in Owasso for four years before returning home to take over his home chapter.

"The addition of Mr. Ridley as our second Ag Teacher opens so many doors for our members. We basically run two different programs within the same FFA Chapter. Together we can offer our kids more opportunities because we have different backgrounds and different areas of expertise. It has dramatically changed the face of our program. Because of the diversity offered, more kids are finding ways to be involved, which leads to a larger membership, which leads to a stronger, more successful program." Turner says. Many people in the community didn't realize that the Eufaula FFA Chapter was a two-teacher program throughout most of this past century. It wasn't until 1988 when the program dropped to a single teacher program, and Darrell Blackman ran the program by himself for the next twenty years. "We needed to be a two-teacher program again, and it is already paying off." Turner added. In the few competitive events that the FFA holds in the fall, the Eufaula FFA has already made its dominant presence known.

In the Shooting Sports Event, senior FFA member, Calahan Henry won the District Contest and advanced to the State Contest where he finished 13th overall. And in the Opening/Closing Ceremonies (OCC) Contest the Eufaula FFA Teams finished 1st and 2nd at the Area Contest and advanced on the State Contest.
The Eufaula FFA Chapter has approximately 120 student-members, and the enrollment is projected to reach 150 members next year. That would make the Eufaula FFA Chapter among the largest chapters in the state.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS ARTICLE
1st Semester

The 2012 fall semester at Eufaula Middle School was an exciting time with multitudes of activities for students. The fall schedule kicked off with fast pitch softball. Coach Stacy Helms led the Lady Copperheads to the most successful season in recent years as they won 6 games with only 3 losses. The inaugural season for Coach Larry Newton Jr. and his hard hitting style of football was next. The seventh and eight grade teams both shared success, ending the season with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses.

The Middle School Academic team coached by Erin Weeks and Shelly Sharp won the OJABA 5th & 6th District Championship and will compete in the Regional Tournament on January 12 here at the MS. Team members are Payton Dawson (Captain), Sebastian Palmer, Cheyenne Fells, Cy Curtis, Briawna Logan and Tevin Rittenhouse.

The Eufaula Middle School Choir, directed by Cryse Burns competed in the Junior High All-State Choir completion in late October. Three students qualified for the second round completion , they were Lillyan Palmer, Hiyuce Wilson and Justin Weeks. After qualification, Hiyuce Wilson was named to the Oklahoma Junior High All-State Choir for her efforts.

Kenedee Rittenhouse, an 8th grade student at Eufaula Middle School, was honored this past summer by the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame as an up and coming Rising Star. In early September Kenedee was invited to perform in Brownsville, Tennessee at the Tina Turner Tribute Celebration in front of more than 100 people. Kenedee has been selected to audition for the fall 2013 season of the Voice where she will travel to Houston TX. Good Luck Kenedee we are rooting for you.

ELEMENTARY NEWS ARTICLE
1st Semester

Time flies when you are having fun, and we must be having a blast at Eufaula Elementary because the first semester has flown by. Our little Ironheads have had a busy first few months. We have implemented many new programs, welcomed new staff, and as always our students have been busy mastering new skills.

Mrs. Newton has energized our elementary music program. The community's turnout for the annual Veteran's program was fantastic. Our fifth grade performances and student body participation ably honored our veterans.

December brought many more musical treats with the Elementary Christmas Extravaganzas. Mrs.Newton and her students delighted the audiences with three Christmas programs this year. Keeping with the high energy level at the elementary, Mrs. Flinn's physical education classes have been moving with the "Move It" program. The third grade classes performed the "Cha-Cha" Slide on Dec. 18th at the half time of the high school girls'basketball game. The elementary performed several times at the basketball games this year.

The winning Ironhead sports tradition continues. The third and fifth grade little league football teams carried home the Super Bowl trophies this season. The fourth and fifth grade basketball teams are enjoying winning seasons with special recognition to the fourth grade boys for winning first at the Kiowa, Webbers Falls, and Whitefield basketball tournaments.

Our elementary students are learning the value of being good citizens and giving back to the community.
The first grade classes have adopted the senior citizen center this year. Each month they make and deliver holiday cards to Eufaula Senior Citizens. They also went Christmas caroling at the senior citizen center.
The seniors and students all enjoy this ongoing project. Our third graders sang Christmas carols at the December Eufaula School Board meeting.

The needy of our community were also served by all the students and their families contributing to such worthy causes such as Toys for Tots, Backpack Buddies, and God's Helping Hands Food Drive.

Once again our students have shone brightly across the county and state with their winning essays in area contests. Jaci Combs placed first in our local Veteran's Day Fifth Grade Essay Contest. We were privileged to hear her recite her essay at the Elementary Veteran's Day Program. Fifth grader, Journi James won first place statewide in the 8-10 age category of the Jim Thorpe Red Ribbon Contest. She will be honored in January at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Mrs. Goodwin's' first grade class was also chosen as one of a select few to decorate one of the state capitol Christmas trees.

Coming attractions for second semester include the first ever Eufaula 4th -8th District Spelling Bee in January and the Creek Nation Challenge Bowl in February. We are looking forward to a spectacular 2013. GO IRONHEADS!

I would like to take this opportunity to inform the community of the Move It program that we are involved with this year. Eufaula Elementary in partnership with the Creek Nation under the direction of Kimberlee Little and Taylor Thompson are implementing lifelong physical activity for all 3rd through 5th grade elementary students to help prevent Type II diabetes.

Once a week our students are introduced to games that promote exercise and healthy living. The students are also given an opportunity to earn coupons by doing any physical activity for 30 minutes outside of school.

Performing these activities with a parent or guardian doubles the coupons for up to 4 a day. These coupons are then turned in to their teachers and a winner from each class is drawn monthly. The winners may choose from Nike incentives such as footballs, basketballs, soccer balls and bags

This is a great opportunity for our school to be involved in a program that promotes lifetime physical activities that encourages parents and guardians to participate, too!

Kim Little has offered an incentive for those students who participated in performing the Cha Cha dance at basketball halftime.

She has agreed to give 10 Move It coupons for every performer to use for the December drawing. In addition, she will keep a list of those that participate and will do an extra drawing for them.

I recently attended a PE workshop where I learned new games, bought PE equipment at a reduced rate, and the Creek Nation bought equipment for us to use.

The Creek Nation is truly helping our students and we appreciate their support and the energy they have given to ensure our students develop a healthy lifestyle.

EHS Band – Marching Comes to Close as Concert Band Kicks Off

The Eufaula High School Band’s marching season finished off another great season in the Fall semester. With concert band season now upon them, the Eufaula High School Band hope to use the momentum gained to capture another OSSAA State Sweepstakes Award!

This year’s marching season started off with the largest band contest in the state, The 5th Annual Oolagah “Stallion Battalion” Marching Band Contest on Saturday, September 24th which put the Eufaula Band against 30 different bands from around the region. In their preliminary performance the EHS Band marched and played well enough to earn them the following awards: 2nd place Class 3A drumline, 2nd place Class 3A Drum Major, 1st place Class 3A Color Guard, and 1st place overall in their division!! Their score was high enough to put them into the finals competition which was held in the evening and put the top 12 bands of the day head-to-head in competition regardless of class size. In finals competition, the band increased the quality of their performance and came away from finals with the overall 3rd place Drum Major award, the overall 1st place Color Guard award and the EHS Band finished 4th over all classes!!! The band was the only 3A band in the top 8 in the finals beating many larger 4A schools from around the state. Next came the Konawa Band Day Marching Band Invitational Contest. At this competition, the level of performance advanced and the band won 2nd place in Class 3A-Large and also came away with the 1st place Color Guard trophy in Class 3A. As the season continued, the next challenge came at the 1A-2A-3A OBA State Marching Band Championships. Competing in a larger class than year’s past created a large hurdle but the Eufaula High School Marching Band competed well enough to land a Class 3A 4th place finish in prelims and earned them a trip to finals that evening. As they had all season, the band’s evening performance was an improvement which yielded the Eufaula Marching Band a 5th place overall finish!!!

The final marching band competition for the Eufaula Band this past Fall was the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest in McAlester. This contest is the first obstacle to overcome to attain an OSSAA Sweepstakes Award which is the equivalent of a State Championship in athletic events. All Oklahoma bands are eligible for the Sweepstakes Award if they can earn a Superior Rating from 2 out of 3 judges at their respective OSSAA Regional Marching Band competitions. Many bands falter at this first hurdle, but not the Eufaula High School Band!!! The band performed at an exceptionally high level earning them a unanimous Superior rating decision!!! This keeps the Eufaula High School Band’s 6th consecutive State Sweepstakes Award aspirations alive!!!

Another ensemble of note is the EHS Color Guard. This year’s color guard has taken excellence to a new level. The guard received awards for Outstanding Auxiliary in 3A at 2 out of 3 contests the band competed in this year. Individual standouts, Emma Easiley, Erica Vinzetta, and Tierra Williams competed in Solo competition at the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest and received the rating of Superior, Excellent, and Excellent, respectively, for their solos. The Color Guard also competed as an individual ensemble at Regional Marching Contest at McAlester and received the rating of Superior!!!

There are also some individual accomplishments for musicianship in the Eufaula Band programs that have won both District and Regional honors. Auditioning and making the EDBDA All-District Honor Band this year were 7th graders Tyresse Collins on Tuba, Alicia Edwards on Flute, Bailey Heflin on Clarinet, Lillyan Palmer on French Horn, and Hiyuce Wilson on French Horn. A whopping 16 students earned honors at the EOBDA Honor Band tryouts. These students are Middle School Honor Band members Tyresse Collins on Tuba, Baylee Heflin on Clarinet (alternate), Riley Marlar on French Horn, Tyra McIntosh on Clarinet, Chris Oulds on Flute, Lillyan Palmer on French Horn, Austin Weeks on Tenor Sax, and Hiyuce Wilson on French Horn. High School Honor Band members include Kurstyn Abreo on Trumpet, Emily Burris on Flute (alternate), Hunter Craig on Tuba (alternate), Shelly Davis on Clarinet, Logan Day on Percussion (alternate), Hannah Heroneme on Trumpet, Rebekah Lal on Clarinet, and Ashton Mayle on Percussion. Congratulations to all of these outstanding individual musicians and keep up the good work!!!

This year’s concert season is still young and the band is dedicated to making it one to remember. They have jumped out to a great start with their successes in marching season and plan on keeping their momentum all the way through the year. With the OSSAA District Concert Band contest looming in the horizon the band is working hard toward finishing the year in Eufaula High School Band style…..success!!!!

The Eufaula Band program’s directors and students would like to thank the school board, administrators, staff, and parents for all of their support and hard work so far this marching season. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that takes place that allows this program to excel. This support is very much appreciated. Without your support and assistance the task would be next to impossible.
